Greetings Log Cabiners!
We had an amazing Pride this year. We signed up 30 new Log Cabiners for pride fest, and a little over 1/2 that at Midsommarfest. We also gave out over 1000 pamphlets to attendees. Needless to say, our first time at these events was quite successful, and we look forward ot doing it again next year. Our float in the parade was a big hit, with more cheers than ever this year, and you can see a link to our pictures from the parade below. Our perseverance and hard work is paying off with more and more positive reactions to Republicans within the LGBT community. Good work guys!
On the political front, we have good news & we have bad news. Good News 1st: In case you’ve been living under a rock, NY passed Gay Marriage thanks in no small part to Republican Support of the bill. Bad News: In our own land of lincoln, the Department of Revenue has read our recently passed Civil Unions bill so that it “did not change the Illinois income tax laws.” They have made an executive decision to strip rights we worked so hard for. In other news, long-term friend & ally Treasurer Dan Rutherford has instituted a new program, called Cash Dash. “Cash Dash is designed to reunite owners with unclaimed property such as money or assets. Local residents are invited to come by and search the Cash Dash database to see if the state has anything that is owed to them.” Thanks, Treasurer Rutherford!
